* Congratulations to Sherry Bethune, the winner of the 2009 undergraduate award in analytical chemistry from the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry!
* The UNT Forensic Science Program and Forensic Science Club sponsored a CSI Family Day at the 6th Floor Museum at the Dealey Plaza on Sunday, March 15, 2009. The event had a great turnout of approximately 560! Click here to see UNT Forensic Science Program students and the CSI Family Day on the news!
* Armstrong Forensic Laboratory, Inc. was given the Texas Family Business of the Year award November 6, 2008 by the Baylor University Institute for Family Business. See the award here.
* Two of our program students, Nicole Wallace and Maureen Nduta, were awarded travel scholarships to the upcoming American Academy of Forensic Sciences annual conference, which will be held in Denver, CO during the week of February 16 - 21, 2009!
2008/2009 Meetings:
18TH IAFS TRIENNIAL MEETING
The 18th triennial meeting of the International Association of Forensic Sciences was held July 21-25, 2008 in New Orleans, LA. Nicole Ledbetter, a graduate student in the UNT Chemistry Department, attended and presented her abstract Nanomanipulation Coupled to Nanospray Mass Spectrometry: Applications to Direct Cell Probing and Trace Fiber Analysis.
SOUTHWESTERN ASSOCIATION OF FORENSIC SCIENTISTS
2008 ANNUAL MEETING
The SWAFS 2008 annual meeting was held September 22-26, 2008 in Little Rock, AR. Dr. Golden, the Director of the UNT Forensic Science Program and an Associate Professor in UNT's Chemistry Department, attended and presented the abstract Direct Analysis of Trace Analytes and GSR from Fibers Utilizing Nanomanipulation-Couples Mass Spectrometry. Nicole Wallace, a graduate student in UNT's Chemistry Department, also attended and presented her abstract Non-Destructive Test Methods.
9TH ANNUAL TARRANT COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINER'S CONFERENCE
The 9th Annual "Current Trends in Forensic Science" was held December 17-19, 2008 at 200 Feliks Gwozdz Place in Fort Worth, TX 76104. A variety of exciting topics were covered, including The Medical Examiner, Human Identification, Prosecution, A Look at Forensic Disciplines, and Mass Fatalities. Several members of the Forensic Science Program attended the conference.
AMERICAN ACADEMY OF FORENSIC SCIENCES (AAFS)
61st ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING
The AAFS annual meeting was held February 16-21, 2009 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Golden, the Director of the UNT Forensic Science Program, attended and presented some abstracts, and several of our program students attended as well.
